The Best of 2016

Tomato, Pomegranate and Cucumber Salad with Pomegranate Molasses

I always enjoy and look forward to reading “the best of” posts written by my blogging friends, and yet I’ve never considered doing the same myself. This is probably due to my regular end-of-the-year blues and reluctance to analyse the past twelve months where I tend to see only the empty half of the glass… Anyway, this week I decided to break this bad habit (or rather lack of it) and share with you a small selection of the most thrilling culinary adventures and discoveries I have experienced this year. Happy New Year, my dear visitors!

  1. Thank you for being out there and posting such great foods. Thank you again for the mitsuba and shiso seeds. Unfortunately, the plants aren’t overwintering well in the house. Looking forward to the spring.

  2. Happy New Year’s!!!! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend and looking forward to 2017. Bet it was hard to pick out your favorites because you have so many great dishes! You flagged some great ones and I just put the Egg Molee on my list of foods to make in 2017.

  3. Happy New yYear to you too, dear Sissi! Each and every one of your dishes are mouth watering and beautiful. The tomato and pomegranate looks particularly appealing because it is winter! I wish you happiness and good health in 2017!

  4. Well I’m sure glad you decided to do a “best of” post – these are such great selections and I agree, so important to see the glass as half full – at least from time to time 😉 (I live with someone who resides on the optimistic side of life – lol – and it’s so refreshing to have this perspective as a reminder). The two delicious numbers that are jumping out at me right now are the coriander chutney (I think we would love) and the passion fruit mousse. I recently started using labneh as my variety of choice for creamy yogurt and have fallen hard (I will be posting a recipe soon). Happy New Year Sissi – wishing you beautiful adventures in 2017!

    1. Thank you so much, Kelly, for all the kind words. The coriander chutney is such a versatile sauce “basis”, I always keep it in the freezer and add it to stir-fried meat or vegetables with some coconut milk to create a quick weekday meal. The passionfruit mousse is such a simple thing… but a blender and some gelatine transform the humble yogurt/quark in such an amazing way, with the tiny bubbles and the airy texture. I’m sure other fruits (slightly tart) would be perfect too, but I love passionfruit so much…
Happy New Year to you and your whole family!

  5. I’ve seen a few of this Best of 2016 posts today and I wish I would have thought about it myself, I find it great to see the most appreciated recipes of other bloggers. That chicken katsu has my name written all over it. 🙂
